Etsy GPSR Manufacturer and Safety Information

Etsy added a product safety section to listings for sales to the EU, EEA and Northern Ireland under the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR). Here is what it asks for and where it goes, based on Etsy's own Help Center and Seller Handbook.

Where it is

In the listing form, Etsy's guide to creating a listing includes a subsection called "GPSR manufacturer and safety information", after shipping in the Pricing & shipping part. Etsy's Seller Handbook describes it as a product safety section in your listings, available on web and mobile browsers.

There is also a shop-wide setting: Shop Manager, then Settings, then Partners you work with, then Add economic operator. You enter the operator's name, address and contact information and click Save operator. Etsy says this cannot be done in the Etsy Seller App.

Etsy says you only need to fill either the shop-level or the listing-level field: shop-level if one EU responsible person covers your whole shop, listing-level if you resell products made by others.

What to enter

Etsy's definition of manufacturer includes anyone who has a product made under their own name or trademark, so a seller who brands products made by someone else can be the manufacturer.

Which sales it covers

Etsy says the rules cover sales to all EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Northern Ireland. They apply to sellers Etsy classes as traders, wherever those sellers are based. England, Wales and Scotland are not covered; they have separate UK product safety rules.

Etsy says the rules applied from 13 December 2024, and that listings already available in those countries before that date are exempt, even if renewed, as long as they met the earlier safety rules. If a shop opens delivery to those countries later, all its listings are covered, including older ones.

Digital items and print-on-demand

Etsy states the rules apply to all types of products, both physical and digital, unless they are covered by other safety regulations. Its settings offer separate choices for physical and digital items when choosing how you sell to GPSR states.

For production partners such as print-on-demand services, Etsy says that depending on the role your partner plays, they may have obligations under the GPSR. Etsy does not say whether the seller or the partner is the manufacturer. For items you design but someone else makes, it says the safety information may already be on the product, its packaging or labelling, or in accompanying documents, or you can ask the manufacturer.

If you do not want to sell to GPSR countries

Etsy offers an opt-out under Shop Manager, then Settings, then Options, then "Choose how you sell to GPSR states". Etsy says that after opting out your listings are shown less in those countries and buyers there cannot check out, though direct links still work.

Common questions

Where do I add GPSR manufacturer and safety information on Etsy?

In the listing form, in the "GPSR manufacturer and safety information" subsection after shipping. For a shop-wide EU responsible person, use Shop Manager > Settings > Partners you work with > Add economic operator (not available in the Etsy Seller App).

Do I need to fill in both the shop-level and listing-level fields?

No. Etsy says you only need to fill either the shop-level or the listing-level field.

Does Etsy GPSR information apply to digital products?

Etsy states the rules apply to all types of products, both physical and digital, unless they are covered by other safety regulations.

Does it apply to UK buyers?

Etsy says it applies to buyers in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Northern Ireland, not England, Wales or Scotland.

Will Etsy remove my listing if the information is missing?

Etsy says that if it receives notification from an authority that a product is non-compliant, it will take appropriate action, which may include removing the listing and/or suspending the account. Etsy's pages do not describe automatically hiding listings that lack the information.
