Under the General Product Safety Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/988), which has applied since 13 December 2024:
Product identification: a type, batch or serial number, or another element that lets the product be identified (Article 9).
Manufacturer: name, registered trade name or registered trademark, and a postal and electronic address (Article 9).
EU responsible economic operator: a product can only be placed on the EU market if an economic operator established in the EU is responsible for it, and their name and contact details must be on the product, its packaging, the parcel or an accompanying document (Article 16).
Importer, where there is one: name, registered trade name or trademark, and postal and electronic address (Article 11).
Instructions and safety information in a language consumers can easily understand, as decided by the country where the product is sold (Article 9).
What goes in an online listing
Article 19 requires distance sales, including marketplace listings, to show clearly: the manufacturer's name, registered trade name or trademark and postal and electronic address; if the manufacturer is not in the EU, the same details for the EU responsible person; information identifying the product, including a picture and its type; and any warning or safety information to be affixed to the product or included in its labelling, in a language easily understood by consumers in the country where it is sold.
